H.M. Drottningens tal vid utdelning av EAACI PhARF Award

Dear President,
Dear Awardees,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to be back here after 20 years and it is also a great pleasure to be invited to this very special occasion.

Asthma and allergy are among the most prevalent diseases of our time. As a long-term patron of the “Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association”, this is an area of particular interest to me.

Approximately 25 per cent of the world’s population is afflicted by some form of allergy. Here in Sweden, a third of the population is affected by allergy or hypersensitivity and approximately 10 per cent of the population live with asthma.

Many of those impacted are children and young adults. Allergies and asthma can be challenging for them to live with. This is such an important and complex issue. Getting a correct diagnosis is the key to getting appropriate treatment and improving their quality of life. But it is not a given that everyone gets a correct diagnosis. Here, too, there is a lot to do.

We are here to recognize the winners of the 2022 and 2023 Thermo Fisher Scientific PhARF award.

It makes me very proud to reward the work of two young leading scientists who have made outstanding contributions to advancing the understanding of allergic conditions. I hope that your work inspires other young scientists.

To enable you to continue your important work, your respective universities will receive a considerable research grant. A very big thanks to Thermo Fisher Scientific that continues to sponsor this research award – now in its 37th year!
