H.M. Konungens tal vid Biotech seminariet

Japan

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Minister Hägglund,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you so much for the interesting presentations. I am most impressed by these reports which really are inspiring and fascinating.

I am very pleased to be back in Japan and to be able to listen to this exchange of knowledge and experience between experts from our two countries within the field of life science. It is an honour to see so many distinguished guests from the Japanese medical community in the audience and I hope this afternoon has been as rewarding for you as for me.

In today's global community the exchange of know-how between nations and individuals is extremely important, not least in science and technology. I hope that Sweden, with its advanced standing in academic research and its many innovative companies, has much to offer Japan.

The importance and impact of the work carried out by all of you in the academic world, in hospitals or in companies, cannot be overestimated. The global costs of cardiovascular disorders are rising when it comes to diminished quality of life and health care expenses. You all have a role to play in challenge of helping to solve this problem in Japan, Sweden and worldwide.

Let me conclude by thanking our hosts, the National Cardiovascular Centre with its Swedish partners for arranging this seminar. I am convinced you will be able to enjoy the interest and satisfaction of a successful event.

Thank you!
