Ladies and Gentlemen

An image says more than a thousand words. Medical Magnetic resonance imaging has over the last 25 years revolutionized medical diagnostics and treatment. It is possible to make images without causing harm, images that help the doctor to make a better diagnosis. MR supports healthcare and improves quality of life.

You, the world MR scientists face the challenge of developing the knowledge of the future. Together you can create even better images of the human body.

A theme of this year's conference is dementia. Dementia hits millions of people with devastating effects on the brain and is a heavy burden on their families and the society. An early diagnosis can make a real difference for the patient. Imaging is also crucial in drug development. Images of the brain function can improve the understanding of the symptoms. MR thereby adds value to the care of this important group of patients.

I wish you all a successful meeting here in Stockholm and that this meeting serves sharing of knowledge and development of new ideas.

I hereby declare the 2010 joint meeting of the Magnetic Resonance Socities opened.
