The King opened the council by saying:

Mr Speaker,
and – for the first time – Madam Prime Minister,
incoming ministers.

Welcome.

For almost three weeks, the Speaker has led the work to appoint a new Government former, and the Riksdag has approved the Speaker's proposal.

Following a parliamentary process in accordance with our constitution, a new Government commences its duties today here in the Cabinet Meeting Room at the Royal Palace.

And you, Madam Prime Minister, will be the 34th holder of the office of Prime Minister since it was established during the time of my great-great-grandfather, King Oscar II.

I thereby declare this Council of State open, and hand over to the Speaker.

HM The King
