The King and Queen attend the Malmö International Forum

On Wednesday 13 October, The King and Queen attended Remember – ReAct, the Malmö International Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism.

The meeting at MalmöMässan brought together representatives from abroad, international organisations and social media companies. Survivors of the Holocaust, researchers, experts and representatives from civil society organisations also took part.

The aim of the forum was to strengthen work for Holocaust remembrance and combating antisemitism and other forms of racism, and for continuing to enhance international cooperation within the area.

The forum addressed four themes: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust education, antisemitism on social media platforms, and combating antisemitism and other forms of racism in all spheres of life.

Plenary meeting and exhibitions

The King and Queen were welcomed by the Prime Minister and Minister Anna Ekström. During an introductory plenary meeting, participants discussed the consequences of fewer and fewer survivors and witnesses being alive to talk about the Holocaust.

Later during the visit to MalmöMässan, The King and Queen had the opportunity to see some of the forum's exhibitions. These included a film about the artist Ceija Strojka, who survived the Holocaust, and an exhibition about Raoul Wallenberg. One of the Red Cross's white buses was also on site.

During the afternoon, The King and Queen spoke in private with Finland's President Sauli Niinistö and President of the World Jewish Congress (MJC) Ronald S Lauder.

The day concluded with a joint plenary meeting at which the participants spoke about the way forward to ensure the implementation of the actions presented during the day.
