HM The King's press statement in connection with state visit in Jordan
Amman, Jordan
(The spoken version shall take precedence)
Your Majesty,
Ladies and gentlemen and members of the press,
Jordan is known for its hospitality, and the Queen and I have received a very warm welcome here today. Thank you, Your Majesty, for that.
I am pleased that our first state visit abroad for almost three years brings us to Jordan, now that the pandemic has finally started to ease up. We have had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful country several times, both officially and on private visits as well.
Four years ago, our daughter Crown Princess Victoria and Her husband Prince Daniel made an official visit to your country. I know that they have many fond memories from that.
Your Majesty: Our families have a warm friendship – and our countries are close partners. Not only have we had diplomatic relations for more than 70 years, but last year we also celebrated 40 years of Swedish presence in Jordan.
Today, I will have the honour to inaugurate the new offices of the Embassy of Sweden here in Amman, as well as the Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa. It is promising to see the Swedish presence in Amman expand and the relationship between Sweden and Jordan grow stronger.
The Queen and I look very much forward to continuing our visit here in your historical and dynamic country. It is my hope that this state visit will contribute to further developing the cooperation and friendship between our countries and peoples.
Thank you!
