Sunday 14 November was World Diabetes Day. Earlier in the week, The Crown Princess visited the Centre for Diabetes at the Academic Specialist Centre for Stockholm County's healthcare districts to find out about the latest research.

World Diabetes Day is a UN initiative that focuses on the millions of people who live with or risk developing diabetes.

The disease also affects many children. In Sweden, 8,000 children currently live with type 1 diabetes and 900 children develop the disease every year.

The Centre for Diabetes is an academic specialist unit that integrates diabetes care with research, development, education and innovation.

During her visit, The Crown Princess had the opportunity to speak with employees at the centre's laboratory, who described the latest research into type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

The Crown Princess has been patron of the Child Diabetes Foundation since 1993.
