On Sunday 12 and Monday 13 January, The King attended the Society and Defence National Conference in Sälen.
The conference began on the Sunday, with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's speech on Sweden in a globalised world. Finland's President Sauli Niinistö then spoke about the world and Finland's prioritisations. The afternoon also included a discussion on Sweden's future security policy: two perspectives from Göran Hägglund, party leader of the Christian Democrats, and Åsa Romson, spokesperson for the Green Party. Other subjects discussed on the Sunday included "Power and the media: how is our image of the world formed?" The Monday began with Stefan Löfven, party leader of the Social Democratic Party, speaking about Sweden's future security policy. Jan Björklund, party leader of the Liberal Party, and Jonas Sjöstedt, party leader of the Left Party, then held a discussion on "Sweden's future security policy: two perspectives". During the afternoon, PJ Anders Linder, Editor-in-Chief of Axess, and Annika Nordgren Christensen, an expert on defence and security policy, spoke about the parties' security policies.
