The King acts as host to Heads of State when they pay formal visits to Sweden.

There are usually two incoming and two outgoing State Visits each year.

Outgoing State visits by His Majesty The King, accompanied by representatives of the Government, result in important contacts with other countries and their leaders.

State visits indicate good relations between Sweden and the foreign power concerned.

Each visit lasts two or three days.

The Head of State will attend a State Banquet in his or her honour, and host a banquet in turn.

One day is spent by the visiting Head of State visiting places or organisations of interest to the visitor.

When Heads of State visit Sweden less formally, they are nearly always entertained or received by The King.
