The birthday programme comprises Friday, April 28 and Sunday, April 30, 2006.
On the afternoon of Friday, April 28, The King is holding a workshop for youths and youth leaders at the Bernadotte Library. The aim of the workshop is to start a dialogue between youth and youth leaders regarding issues concerning isolation and alienation in today´s society and how to remedy this. The workshop is kindly being headed by the Fryshuset youth foundation. Youths and youth leaders from all over Sweden are being invited.
Sunday, April 30 starts with a service at the Royal Chapel at 10:30, followed by the changing of the guards between 11:30 and 12:30. Afterwards a musical celebration is being held at Lejonbacken featuring the AdolfFredrikChoir School and the Swedish Armed Forces orchestra.
This is followed by the Riksdagen lunch at the Stockholm City Hall at 14:00. The Royal Family will be transported by horse-drawn cortège to the City Hall. The day ends with a concert in the Hall of State at 19:00, followed by a gala dinner in The White Sea Hall. Invitees include Heads of State, members of parliament, government officials, public administration officials, as well as representatives from industry, media, and culture.
The concert will feature Anne Sofie von Otter, Malena Ernman, Jeanette Köhn, Lisa Nilsson, Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, Ale Möller, Anders Paulsson, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gustaf Sjökvist Chamber Choir, amongst others, all under the leadership of Gustaf Sjökvist.
The programme includes a first time performance of a piece commissioned from the RoyalSwedishAcademy of Music composed by Jan Sandström for solo, choir and orchestra.
Parts of the birthday programme will be broadcast live by SVT, the Swedish Public Service Broadcaster, on Sunday, April 30.
