On Wednesday 2 September, The Queen, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel held an audience with representatives from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency in connection with the current situation in the Lebanese capital Beirut following the major explosion in August.
During an audience in the morning, The Queen and The Crown Princess Couple received Assistant Under-Secretary Ann Dismorr, Head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' Unit for the Middle East and North Africa.
The Assistant Under-Secretary provided information about the latest political developments in Lebanon, what the explosion has meant in terms of the spread of COVID-19 and the consequences from a regional perspective.
In the afternoon, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel held an audience with Per Velandia, Programme Manager for Humanitarian Operations at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency.
Mr Velandia spoke about the Agency's efforts following the explosion. For example, the Agency has contributed three experts: one environmental expert and two experts within information management, coordination, logistics and security, who have ensured that the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination have been able to work as effectively as possible.
The Queen, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel have all visited Beirut recently.
