On Monday 11 January, The King sent a digital greeting during the Swedish Cancer Society's Together Against Cancer TV gala.
Since 1973 The King has been patron of the Swedish Cancer Society, which aims to fight cancer by raising money for cancer research and spreading awareness. This year's gala was broadcast on TV4, and raised 259 million kronor.
In his greeting, The King said:
"During my time, cancer research has made enormous advances. This is fantastic. But it is also important that we do not rest on our laurels. Research must continue!
"So that more lives can be saved, and more people can have hope for the future.
"The Swedish Cancer Society and other voluntary organisations therefore play an important role, together with all those of you who work within cancer research and healthcare.
"A big thank you to all of you!"
The Swedish Cancer Society is one of the biggest financial backers of Swedish cancer research, and has contributed more than 11 billion kronor to research projects in Sweden since 1951. Every year, the Society funds around 500 research projects.
