The King and The Crown Princess attend the Opening of the General Synod

On Tuesday 2 October, The King and The Crown Princess attended the Opening of the General Synod at Uppsala Cathedral.

The Opening of the General Synod began with a service at the cathedral, led by Bishop of Gothenburg Susanne Rappmann. The General Synod was then declared open.

The guest of honour was Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II, Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church. The Archbishop, the County Governor, the Chair of the General Synod, the second and third Vice Chairs, the Chief Court Chaplain and the Dean of Uppsala Cathedral also attended.

The General Synod is the Church of Sweden's highest decision-making body, and consists of 251 members selected from the Church of Sweden's members. The General Synod meets once a year, divided up into two sessions held during the autumn.
