On Friday 20 September, The King and Queen hosted a Sweden Dinner at the Royal Palace. The aim of the Sweden Dinner is to recognise people who have made significant local, regional or national contributions.
The invited guests included representatives from culture, industry, education, sports and organisations in Sweden's 21 counties, as well as the county governors. Approximately 180 guests were received and welcomed by The King and Queen and The Crown Princess Couple in Queen Lovisa Ulrika's Dining Hall in the Bernadotte Apartments.
A brass ensemble from the Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps performed in the East Staircase as the guests made their way from the welcoming ceremony to the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms, where the Sweden Dinner was held.
The Sweden Dinner is a form of official dinner held at the Royal Palace, and was introduced in connection with The King's 40th jubilee in 2013.
The table was decorated with burnished candelabras dating from the time of King Karl XIV Johan. The floral decorations on the tables consisted of dahlias and garden cosmos from Brunnsviken and autumn fern from Royal Djurgården.
The tablecloths and napkins were woven in Ireland in 1959. The pattern consists of ornamental leaves around the edges of the tablecloth, forming a simple yet attractive framework to King Gustaf VI Adolf's woven monogram in the centre of the tablecloth.
The porcelain consisted of gifts from the Riksdag and the Swedish Government on The King's 50th and 70th birthdays. The service for his 50th birthday was produced by Hackman-Rörstrand Gustafsberg and designed by Karin Björquist. The service for his 70th birthday was produced by the Gustavsberg ceramics company and designed by Daniel Hassila.
The glassware was also part of The King's 70th birthday gift. It was made at Skruf Glassworks and designed by Carina Seth Andersson.
The King accompanied County Governor of Västmanland Minoo Aktharzand to the table. Helena Karlberg, CEO of Piteå Science Park in Norrbotten County, was seated to his left.
The Queen accompanied County Governor of Gotland Anders Flanking – who also gave the speech of thanks – to the table. Leif Hylander, Director of Perstorp Fire and Rescue Service, Skåne County, was seated to her right.
The Crown Princess accompanied County Governor of Västra Götaland Anders Danielsson to the table. Björn Blommegård, Regional Director of Halland Voluntary Flying Corps, Halland County, was seated to her right.
Prince Daniel accompanied County Governor of Södermanland Liselott Hagberg to the table. Frida Johansson, CEO of Värmland Chamber of Commerce, Värmland County, was seated to his left.
Lightly smoked Frøya salmon with pickled Västerås cucumber,
cucumber vinaigrette, avocado crème and radish crudités
Roasted fillet of beef with roasted Jerusalem artichoke, potato purée,
fried mushrooms and shallot gravy flavoured with brandy
Apple terrine with calvados caramel sauce,
vanilla ice cream and melted white chocolate
