On Wednesday 23 January, The Crown Princess visited the Swedish Army's Army Ranger Battalion and the Swedish Armed Forces' Winter Unit, both of which are part of Norrbotten Regiment I 19.
The Winter Unit is responsible for training Swedish units to work in the cold, wind and snow of the winter climate. The training is carried out in Boden and Arvidsjaur, and also attracts foreign armed forces.
During her visit, The Crown Princess met soldiers who are undergoing basic training at the Swedish Army's Army Ranger Battalion and learnt about the battalion's duties and operations. In the snowy landscape, The Crown Princess saw examples of an observation site and a winter bivouac. The Crown Princess also had the opportunity to walk in show shoes and drive a snowmobile, which are used by the battalion.
