On Thursday 26 March, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel visited the field hospital being built by the Swedish Armed Forces at Stockholm International Fairs in association with Region Stockholm.
The National Board of Health and Welfare has asked the Swedish Armed Forces to build a field hospital at Stockholm International Fairs in Älvsjö. The field hospital was due to be commissioned on the following Monday, and staffed by workers from Region Stockholm and the Swedish Armed Forces.
During a tour, Head of Mellersta Military Region Col. Thomas Karlsson and Region Stockholm's Director of Health Care Björn Eriksson described the modules being erected at the exhibition centre and how patients are expected to be cared for at the hospital shortly.
Officers, soldiers and home guard personnel from the Swedish Armed Forces and civilians from Region Stockholm, property company Locum and Stockholm International Fairs are working around the clock to complete the field hospital.
During their visit, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel had the opportunity to thank workers and volunteers for their efforts at the exhibition centre.
The Royal Family are keen to show their support for the initiatives being carried out by society to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Royal Family are staying informed about how the pandemic is affecting Sweden via discussions, digital meetings and visits.
These visits are planned based on current recommendations, and every effort is being made not to take up time and resources unnecessarily.
