On Thursday 20 August, officials from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs informed The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel about current events in Belarus.
In the afternoon, The Crown Princess Couple were given an update on the situation in the country in connection with the latest developments.
During the audience, Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath, Head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Deputy Assistant Under-Secretary Björn Linderfalk provided more in-depth information about events since the presidential election in Belarus on 9 August.
The election results have led to widespread demonstrations in the country. The Swedish Government has stated that the election in Belarus was neither free nor fair, and has condemned the use of violence against demonstrators.
The Crown Princess Couple were also informed about Sweden's work within the EU since the Belarussian election, including sanctions against the country.
