The King presents the Prince Carl Medal to Staffan de Mistura

On Tuesday 4 December, The King awarded the Prince Carl Medal to Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Staffan de Mistura in recognition of his outstanding international humanitarian contributions.

Swedish-Italian diplomat Staffan de Mistura has been the UN's Special Envoy for Syria since 2014, and has the task of working to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in the country. Mr de Mistura has devoted much of his career to international conflict resolution, including in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Prince Carl Medal

The Prince Carl Medal was instituted by King Gustaf Vopens in new window on 1 December 1945 to mark Prince Carlopens in new window's retirement as Chairman of the Board of the Swedish Red Cross, a position he had held since 1906.
