The Swedish Ship Götheborg is a replica of the ship with the same name that went aground in 1745 and sank at Hunnebådan at the entrance to Gothenburg Harbour. The construction of the new Swedish Ship Götheborg began in 1995, and she was completed eight years later.
Ever since the town was founded, Luleå's Södra Hamnplan has been one of the town's main loading ports. The actual port operations were moved to Viktoria Harbour in the mid-20th century. A residential area was built on the eastern section in the late 1980s. In 2010, a plan was completed for the southern section, which has now been opened.
