On Saturday 7 July, Prince Carl Philip presented the prize to the winners of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 in Galway, Ireland.
The winners were Team Groupama, skippered by Franck Cammas. The crew included two Swedes, Martin Krite and Martin Strömberg, both of whom sailed on Ericsson 3 which came fourth in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009.
Sunday 8 July
On the morning of Sunday 8 July, The Prince was given a tour of the Volvo Ocean Race Village. He also learnt about Volvo Ocean Race's Keep the Oceans Clean project and the Save the Albatross campaign. Project coordinator for Keep the Oceans Clean Jacqui Smith and artist João Parrinha explained about their work to combine education and inspiration, using art, films and narratives to spread the message. The project is based on challenging people to get involved in the environment where they live. The Save the Albatross campaign highlights the vulnerability of the albatross, which is threatened with extinction.
