On Tuesday 5 April, Queen Silvia received the Health and Human Rights Leadership Award in New York. The Queen was given the award in recognition of her great commitment to children and young people, and her work with the World Childhood Foundation.
In her acceptance speech Opens in new window., The Queen mentioned all those who make her work with the World Childhood Foundation possible: "Many people have contributed through their dedication and their excellent efforts, and they too should feel a sense of pride in connection with this award." The organisation HealthRight International External link, opens in new window. works to give people in vulnerable areas around the world access to healthcare. This is done both through working together with local representatives and through various training programmes. HealthRight International has a presence in more than 30 countries. Previous recipients of the Health and Human Rights Leadership Award include Mary Robinson, Kofi Annan and Desmond Tutu.
