The seminar addressed the issue of how society can develop long-term protection against natural disasters such as flooding and droughts. The panel included this year's prize winner, Professor Stephen R Carpenter, as well as winners from previous years. In the evening, The King presented the Stockholm Water Prize to Professor Carpenter at a ceremony at Stockholm City Hall. Professor Carpenter, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA, has been awarded the prize for his pioneering research on lake ecosystems. After the ceremony, a banquet was held. In his speech, The King spoke about how the Stockholm Water Prize brings together the world's leading water researchers in an attempt to find joint solutions to global challenges.
