They visited the Musée Bernadotte External link, opens in new window., which is located in the house where Bernadotte was born in 1763.

The King and Queen then visited the Château de Pau External link, opens in new window. which, with more than 100,000 visitors each year, is one of the most popular buildings in France. King Henri IV was born here in 1553.

The castle is home to one of the largest collections of tapestries in France. Large vases made of porphyry (a rock containing varying colours), which Bernadotte sent as a gift when he became king of Sweden, are also kept here.
