On Tuesday 31 May, The Crown Princess presented the 2011 ALMA prize to illustrator and author Shaun Tan at Stockholm Concert Hall.
Shaun Tan has written around twenty books. His most famous works include The Rabbit (1998), The Lost Thing (2000), The Red Tree (2001), The Arrival (2006) and Tales from Outer Suburbia (2008). His innovative picture books create visually magnificent narratives that focus on people. He uses a variety of artistic means of expression: pencil sketches, ink sketches, coloured pencils, painting and various printing techniques. His books have been translated into around a dozen different languages, including German, Swedish, Spanish and Chinese. Find out more about Shaun Tan. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is for children's and young people's literature in the broadest sense. Authors, illustrators, storytellers and reading projects can be awarded the prize.
