On Wednesday 26 October, Prince Daniel continued his visit to the USA.
The day began with a visit to Miner Elementary School in Washington DC. Prince Daniel was met by the school's principal, together with Pippi Longstocking and a Viking. The police band played, and the youngest children welcomed The Prince, Minister for Health and Social Affairs Göran Hägglund and Sweden's ambassador Jonas Hafström.
After the American and Swedish national anthems, The Prince, the Minister for Health and Social Affairs and the ambassador took part in a question and answer session for which the pupils had prepared questions in advance.
The Prince was then given a tour of the school and the gymnasium, where there was a display about Sweden and the pupils had the opportunity to try blueberry soup, chocolate balls and apples with dip.
The visit concluded with a joint lunch in the school canteen of salmon, meatballs with lingonberry jam, broccoli and potatoes.
The visit was part of the Nordic food initiative, a collaboration between Nordic Innovation, the Nordic embassies, DC Public Schools and Mayor Vincent Gray. That day, more than 30,000 pupils at 120 schools were served Nordic food.
During the afternoon, The Prince had a number of meetings, including with Program Director Dr Loretta DiPietro from the George Washington School of Public Health and Health Services. A reception was then held at the Norwegian ambassador's official residence in connection with the Nordic food initiative. Two hundred guests were invited, and The Prince had the opportunity to meet the young cooks who had helped to prepare the food for the event.
