On Thursday 24 February, The King and Queen hosted the first official dinner of the year at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
Guests included representatives from the diplomatic corps, the Swedish Parliament, the Government, counties and authorities, and Swedish science, culture, sport and business. In all there were around 150 guests, who were received and greeted by The King, The Queen, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel in the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms. The dinner was held in Karl XI's Gallery.
The King escorted psychiatrist Ylwa Westerberg, wife of the Speaker, to the table. New Zealand's ambassador, Ms Barbara Bridge, was seated to The King's left. The Queen was escorted to the table by Speaker Per Westerberg. El Salvador's ambassador, Mr Martin Rivera Gómez, was seated to The Queen's right. The Crown Princess was escorted to the table by El Salvador's ambassador, Mr Martin Rivera Gómez. Mr José A. Estévez Tavares, husband of the Dominican Republic's ambassador Mrs Marina I. Cacéres de Estévez, was seated to The Crown Princess's right. Prince Daniel escorted the United Arab Emirates' ambassador, Sheikha Najla Al Qassimi, to the table. Psychiatrist Ylwa Westerberg, wife of the Speaker, was seated to Prince Daniel's left.
The menu began with lightly smoked duck breast with Dijon dressing and Jerusalem artichoke salad with pomegranate. Fillet of monkfish with shallot crisp, puy lentils flavoured with burnt butter and braised pak choi were then served. This was followed by roasted Swedish hung fillet of beef with fried duck liver from free-range ducks, black truffle, crouton, spinach and Madeira gravy. The dinner concluded with a chocolate twist served with cherry panna cotta and chocolate sorbet.
