For several years, The Queen has awarded the first prize to the winners of Dagens Nyheter's current affairs quiz on 10 December. The cheerful and excited group of secondary school pupils gathered in the Green Room at Drottningholm Palace.
The Queen congratulated all the winners and presented each of them with a brooch. After the award ceremony, The Queen spoke with the young people. When they said that they would be sitting high up in Stockholm Concert Hall for the Nobel Prize ceremony, The Queen promised to wave to them. Dagens Nyheter's current affairs quiz has been held since 1939. The competition is aimed at all Swedish secondary school pupils. In 2010, 246,751 pupils from 1,123 schools throughout Sweden took part. There is a winner from each county, and those with the most points are also the national winners. This year, four young people got all the questions correct and got the most points in the tiebreakers. In addition to a trip to Stockholm and the award ceremony at Drottningholm Palace, the winners also had a lunch at Rosenbad with Minister for Education Jan Björklund to look forward to, as well as a visit to the Nobel Museum, the Nobel Prize ceremony at Stockholm Concert Hall and a dinner in the evening for all the winners.
