H.K.H. Kronprinsessans inledningsanförande vid panelsamtal om Agenda 2030, Svenska ambassaden i Wien, Österrike, onsdagen den 28 november 2018

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Ladies and gentlemen,
Excellences,

I am delighted to be here in Vienna and to have the opportunity to visit the Embassy.

As some of you may know, this building, the Schwedenhaus, has been the property of the Swedish government for 90 years, since 1928. But its history dates even further back: It was originally built in the 1870’s, as a private home to the editor-in-chief and newspaper owner Moritz Szeps.

Back then, it was a popular meeting place for the intellectual circles of Vienna, who gathered here, in these beautiful rooms, to discuss the great questions of the late 19th century.

Today, it houses modern offices for Sweden's Embassy chancery and the OSCE secretariat. Through extensive but careful renovation, a modern embassy building has been created, meeting high environmental standards while preserving historical values.

Standing here today, I am proud and pleased that the Embassy honours its history as a meeting place.

In this room, I see experts and stakeholders, decision makers and opinion makers. Here, together, to discuss what can only be described as the most pressing matter of our time. I want to thank you all for being here. And I look very much forward to today’s discussion.

The implementation of the 2030 Agenda is a high priority for the Swedish Government. But also for me, personally. As Advocate of the Global Goals, I am delighted to see the commitment with which Austria is working to implement the Agenda.

Progress is indeed being made. But now, we need to step up the pace: The deadline 2030 is rapidly approaching. And there is not a moment to waste. Now is the time for action – not later.

Ladies and gentlemen, please, remember: goals don't change the world - people do. You do.

Thank you.
