HM The King's speech at World Scout Foundation's leadership seminar
Filadelfiakyrkan, Stockholm
(The spoken version shall take precedence)
Your Royal Highness,
Your Highness,
Dear BP Fellows,
Scouts and distinguished guests,
I am proud to open this seminar today on the topic of a peaceful and inclusive world. Especially at a time when highlighting our differences is emphasised more, than finding common ground.
Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to engage in the Scout Movement, as both Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation, and Honorary Chairman of the Guides and Scouts of Sweden, Scouterna.
I have learnt that Scouting takes many forms around the world and is expressed in different ways. But it is based on a shared idea and common values: that by creating spaces where children and young people can meet, explore and learn together, we contribute to a better world.
Scouting has already helped millions of young people develop collaboration, courage, empathy and the ability to take action.
A peaceful and inclusive world is an ambitious goal, and sometimes it can feel far away as we follow the news. But when the world seems to be moving in the wrong direction, this goal becomes even more important.
So we choose to come together this afternoon to think, reflect and explore. Let us use this opportunity to truly listen to one another, to share openly, and to leave with new insights.
Thank you.
