HM The King's speech at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

Washington, DC

(The spoken version shall take precedence)

Mr Kaiser,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Two months ago, the Washington metropolitan area enjoyed the results of a three year project that was taken on by you and your staff. Together with the Nordic embassies in Washington, your team helped to create the largest Nordic art and cultural festival ever held outside Scandinavia- Nordic Cool 2013.

I was told that around 200.000 people came to the Kennedy Center to enjoy a month-long celebration of Nordic design, fashion, literature, and many music, dance and theatre performances.

And I heard about the breath-taking Northern Light show on all four sides of the building's façade.

Thank you for giving Sweden and the other Nordic countries that wonderful opportunity to share our culture with the Washington community.

The Queen and I would like to raise our glasses to thank you, Mr Kaiser, for a most generous and wonderful evening.
