State Visit from Singapore

On 19–21 October 2026, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of the Republic of Singapore will pay a State Visit to Sweden at the invitation of HM The King. President Tharman will be accompanied by his wife, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, and representatives of the Singaporean Government and business sector.

The purpose of the State Visit is to consolidate the warm relations between the countries, strengthen and further develop existing cooperation and create new opportunities for trade and investment in research-based innovation, emerging technologies with critical infrastructure, and digital and green transition. Furthermore, the aim is to conduct an in-depth dialogue on the importance of cooperation on security policy based on common interests, including for developing, protecting and future-proofing critical infrastructure. The State Visit also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Singapore.

The Swedish Government will be represented.

Singapore is ranked as one of the world’s most open and business-friendly economies. It is also an important and dynamic economy, in which Sweden has key foreign and security policy interests. Sweden and Singapore have excellent political relations based on consensus on the importance of a rules-based international order and free trade. More than 300 Swedish companies are present in Singapore and trade is extensive.
