The Crown Princess Couple visit Italy with a trade delegation

On Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 October, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel visited Italy together with Minister Anna Hallberg and a Swedish trade delegation.

Italy is currently making major investments to restart the country following the pandemic. The Crown Princess Couple's visit to Italy was carried out together with Swedish businesses, visiting Rome and Turin to forge contacts and offer services within areas such as digitalisation and the green transition.

On the Monday, the delegation and Ambassador Jan Björklund visited Italy's transport agency to present Swedish road safety and electrification technology.

In the afternoon, The Crown Princess opened a Swedish exhibition about diversity and equality, Images that change the world, on a square in central Rome. During the opening ceremony, The Crown Princess gave a speech in which she said:

New ideas do not materialise out of nothing. They come from people: People who see things from a different angle, people who question the status quo, people who do not always fit the mould.

To break new ground, we need to challenge ourselves; the way we look at the world – and each other.

"It is my hope that this exhibition will help us do that.

The Crown Princess Couple also visited a small Ikea store on the same square.

In the evening, The Crown Princess Couple, Minister Anna Hallberg and the delegation attended a dinner hosted by the ambassador at the Swedish Residence. Invited guests included representatives from the Italian civil service and businesses.

Continuation of the visit to Rome

The Crown Princess Couple, Minister Anna Hallberg and the Swedish industry delegation continued their visit to Rome on the Tuesday.

The morning included a visit to fibre operator Open Fiber for discussions between the state-owned company and Swedish representatives.

The Crown Princess Couple and Ambassador Jan Björklund then visited one of Enel X's charging stations in Rome. The company is a major player within Italy's energy sector. After the visit to the charging station, representatives from Enel X and Swedish businesses held meetings at the Swedish Institute to forge contacts.

A networking lunch was also held there for Swedish and Italian businesses.

The Crown Princess Couple and the delegation spent the rest of the afternoon and the evening on a train to Turin, where the programme continued on the Wednesday.

Turin

On the Wednesday, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel visited businesses in the northern Italian city of Turin.

In the morning, they visited automotive group Stellantis' production facility for the Fiat 500. The visit included discussions between Swedish businesses and Stellantis. The Crown Princess, Prince Daniel and Minister Anna Hallberg were also given a tour of the production facility.

Later during the morning, The Crown Princess, the ambassador and selected Swedish businesses visited SKF's production facility for ball bearings near Turin. The Swedish company SKF is a major employer, and plays an important role as a supplier to the Italian automotive industry.

During the morning, Prince Daniel and Minister Anna Hallberg attended a seminar at the Polytechnic University of Turin. The seminar included discussions on how Sweden and Italy can work together to achieve a green transition within the transport sector. Representatives from Chalmers University of Technology and Swedish businesses also took part in the seminar.

The day in Turin concluded with a networking lunch hosted by SKF, at which Swedish and Italian representatives continued the morning's discussions on joint challenges and opportunities for cooperation.
