The Crown Princess presents the Stockholm Junior Water Prize

On Tuesday 24 August, The Crown Princess spoke at the digital prize-giving ceremony for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2021.

The Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) External link, opens in new window. is an international science prize aimed at young people aged between 15 and 20. Participants from around 30 different countries took part in the competition, which was arranged in connection with the annual World Water Week in Stockholm.

This year's winner of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize was Eshani Jha, who is in her first year of studies at UC Berkeley in the US. She won the prize for her study into removing pollutants from water.

The Crown Princess has been patron of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize since 1994.

World Water Week 2021

World Water Week 2021 took place on 23–27 August, this year in a digital format. Experts, decision-makers and innovators from around the world came together digitally to discuss water-related issues during World Water Week , a global water conference arranged by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals

In January 2016, the then UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed the Crown Princess as one of 17 advocates for the work involved with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The advocates' task is to promote the UN's Sustainable Development Goals – Agenda 2030 – in various ways. Since 2019, The Crown Princess has been part of the alumni group.

As an alumnus, The Crown Princess will continue to focus in particular on work relating to the sea and fishing.
