The King unveils a medallion at the Riksdag building

On Monday 23 August, The King and Queen visited the Riksdag building. There, The King unveiled the portrait medallion presented to him by the Riksdag and the Government on his 75th birthday.

The new plaster portrait medallion is positioned outside the Parliamentary Committee on Finance's session room. The earlier medallion featuring a portrait of King Gustav VI Adolf is now also positioned in the same corridor.

Talk in the Upper Chamber

The King and Queen's visit to the Riksdag building began with Speaker Andreas Norlén welcoming them on the steps. The Government was represented by Minister Ibrahim Baylan.

Nationalmuseum's Magnus Olausson then gave a short talk in the Riksdag's Upper Chamber about the portrayal of royalty in paintings and on medallions over the years.

The King and Queen, the Speaker, Minister Baylan and the artist then made their way to the corridor outside the Parliamentary Committee on Finance's session room, where a ceremony was held to unveil the medallion.

Ernst Nordin

The portrait medallion was created by sculptor Ernst Nordin, who has previously designed around eighty medals and commemorative coins. He also designed the 2001 Swedish one krona coin and the portrait side of the ten kronor coin.
