H.M. Konungens pressuttalande i samband med statsbesöket i Kanada
Rideau Hall, Ottawa, Kanada
(Det talade ordet gäller)
Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada and Deputy of the Governor General,
Prime Minister,
Speakers,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Members of the press,
Her Majesty the Queen and I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and deep gratitude for the warm welcome we have received here in Canada.
We regret that the Governor-General is prevented from participating in this state visit and would like to express our sincere wishes for a swift recovery.
Her Majesty the Queen and I have had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful country on many occasions – both officially and privately. The first state visit took place in 1988 and the most recent in 2006.
Our nations share a close and friendly partnership grounded in common values and mutual respect. Openness have shaped our societies and contributed to prosperity.
Canada was the first country to ratify Sweden’s NATO application. As NATO Allies, we stand united in our support for Ukraine. And as Arctic nations, we share a vital role in addressing the global challenges in the region and keeping it secure.
Canada and Sweden are experiencing strong momentum across areas such as defence, trade, science, climate and energy.
The people-to-people connections are strong. Some 300,000 Canadians have Swedish roots. Last year, many Swedish students went to Canada, and numerous Canadian students participated in exchange programmes in Sweden.
The people of Canada and Sweden also share a common passion for hockey. This is a great example of how shared interests know no borders or geographical distances.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, Her Majesty the Queen and I will, among all, visit the National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is a reminder that we live in a time of global uncertainty and growing geopolitical challenges.
Together, we can promote peace and stability. Our partnership stands as a testament to what can be achieved through mutual trust, shared values, and a common vision for the future.
Her Majesty the Queen and I look forward to the days ahead. It is my hope that this state visit will contribute to further deepening our excellent bilateral relations and the close friendship between our countries and peoples.
Thank you!
