H.M. Konungens tal vid svarsmottagning i samband med statsbesöket i Singapore

Clifford Pier, Singapore

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Mr President,
Ms Ittogi,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks for welcoming me so warmly to Singapore. Her Majesty the Queen regrets being unable to join me on this state visit, as she is suffering from a severe cold. However, she sends her warmest regards.

In this building, central to Singapore's maritime history, it is easy to imagine the busy scenes of the past. Traders and travellers from Sweden and all over the world passing through the gateway, loaded with goods, impressions and memories. The air filled with the sounds and smells from the quays, meetings taking place, and stories being shared.

This was also the landing point for those who wanted a new life. Many stayed and contributed to building what would become the vibrant and innovative country of Singapore.

Ladies and gentlemen,

After just two days, I can conclude that this state visit has reaffirmed the strong relations between our countries. Both Singapore and Sweden share a rich maritime heritage, having built our prosperity on trade. Together with our openness to the wider world, this has enhanced the development of our economies and societies.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you. Your support has been crucial in making this historic state visit a success.

I believe each of you here tonight has played – and will continue to play – an important role in the future partnership and friendship between our countries.

I would also like to thank Business Sweden for your significant contribution to this evening.

Mr President, Ms Ittogi, distinguished guests,

Soon I will return to Sweden. But before I do, I would like to share a taste of Sweden with you tonight, through both music and food.

To You, Mr President and to Ms Ittogi, to the continued friendship between our two Nations, and to the happiness and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I now propose a toast! Skål!
