H.K.H. Prins Carl Philips tal vid Nordiska kongressen om dyslexipedagogik

Stockholms universitet, Stockholm

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Ladies and gentlemen,

I am happy to welcome all of you to the tenth Nordic Dyslexia Congress!

You might wonder why I am standing here in front of you today. One reason is that I am dyslexic myself.

Together with my wife, Princess Sofia, we have launched a foundation called the Prince Couple’s Foundation. The vision of the foundation is that all children should have the opportunity to be themselves.

We also want to contribute to an inclusive society that supports the uniqueness of every individual. That also includes children with dyslexia.

Today, we know that dyslexia can be associated with creativity and strong problem-solving skills. But still, not everyone gets the help they need. Too many children depend on their parents being able to advocate these needs.

A lot has happened in the field of dyslexia since I was a child. Today there are fantastic educational tools. There is more research, deeper knowledge, and better understanding. And there are places like this congress to share knowledge and experiences. But we still have a long way to go.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I believe that everyone here today shares the same ambition, and I will now repeat myself:

We all want to contribute to an inclusive society. A society where children with dyslexia are just as included in the education as children without dyslexia. That is one of the reasons why we are all here.

And, of course, the main topic, to explore the practice and theory of dyslexia, to the benefit of children and adults with reading and writing difficulties.

I want to thank you for being here today. Your hard work and dedication to advancing the field of dyslexia is truly appreciated.

Many children and teenagers are approaching me, telling me about their situation as dyslexics. I would like to take this opportunity, on their behalf, to thank each and every one of you, as well as your international colleagues, for helping them and creating tools to make their lives easier.

Thank you.
