Stockholm has long been an important scene for art, literature and film; for music, theatre and dance. Culture has shaped our capital and continues to do so.

Today, I am delighted to open the Stockholm Art Week 2021 and the UN World Innovation and Creativity Day Sweden.

As an alumni ambassador for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, I am convinced that creativity and innovation are keys to achieving a better future for all.

Art and culture (…) help us appreciate our differences – but also, to see how much there is that unites us, as humans, across time and space.

I hope that this day and the week ahead will inspire more young people to find their creative voice, to trust it – and to use it.

In a time where we are offered simple answers, we need to protect our ability to ask questions. Art and culture strengthen that ability, helping us to understand ourselves – and each other.
