H.M. Konungens tal vid mottagning anordnad av borgmästare Nial Ring

Dublin, Irland

(Det talade ordet gäller)

A Ardmhéara, Lord Mayor, and Lady Mayoress,
Ministers,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen.

It is with great pleasure that Her Majesty the Queen and I have begun this visit to Ireland and to Dublin.

We have been met with a warm welcome by the President and we are pleased to visit your beautiful and historic Mansion House.

I understand that you celebrate, this year, the 100 Year Anniversary of the first Dáil Eireann, convened in this House.

Dublin’s fair city is famous for its rich cultural heritage – and a popular destination for Swedish visitors.

Many of my countrymen come here to experience its flourishing literary and music scenes, its rich pub culture and the beautiful landscape surrounding your capital.

And today, the Queen and I had the opportunity to experience another expression of your cultural heritage, as we watched Gaelic games at the impressive Croke Park stadium.

Lord Mayor, there are many links between Sweden and Ireland, from the history of the Vikings until the present day:

  • There is close cooperation between our governments.
  • There are exchanges and cooperation between our universities and cultural institutions,
  • and between our businesses, not least here in Dublin.

It is my hope that the very full and interesting programme for this state visit will contribute to further strengthening these ties.

We look forward to further developed cultural and business exchanges, including the flows of tourists between our capitals and our countries.

Lord Mayor, we very much value the friendship between our countries and citizens. Thank you for your hospitality and warm welcome.
