H.K.H. Kronprinsessans tacktal vid lunchen i samband med besök till Lettland

Riga slott

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Your Excellency Mister President and First Lady,
Madam Speaker,
Excellences,
Ladies and gentlemen.

I would like to thank the President and the First Lady for their kind invitation. Prince Daniel and I are honoured to be here today, taking part in the Centennial celebrations.

It is always a pleasure to visit your beautiful country, with its fascinating history. A history shaped by the courage and perseverance of the Latvian people in their struggle for freedom and independence.

The ties between our two countries are strong. Latvia is an important partner for Sweden, both economically and politically. In recent years, several high-level visits have taken place. And many Swedes have family, friends and roots in Latvia.

Another manifestation of the bond between us is the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. The SSE group is ranked as the number one business school in the Nordic/Baltic region. I have had the opportunity to visit the school here in Riga before and I look very much forward to coming back this afternoon!

United by history, commerce and culture, there are many reasons for our countries to work together. One such cause, especially close to my heart, is the future of the Baltic Sea; the sea that connects us and that is an integral part of our heritage.

Prince Daniel and I look forward to coming back to Latvia many times in the years to come, and to continue the friendship and cooperation between our two countries.

Thank you.
