H.K.H. Kronprinsessans tal vid invigningen av utställningen Carl Larsson, lʼimagier de la Suède på Petit Palais

Paris, Frankrike

Your Excellencies,
Dear Ambassador,
Director of Petit Palais,
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen

It is a great pleasure for me, and Prince Daniel, to be here in Paris and Petit Palais for the opening of the first Exhibition in France presenting the Swedish painter Carl Larsson.

Like many other Scandinavian painters Carl Larsson came to Paris, and to Barbizon and Grez sur Loing, looking for, not only inspiration, but also for the light so special for this Region.

The time Carl Larsson spent in France became a turning point and it formed him into the Artist we know so well and appreciate today. While working here in France, he chose watercolours instead of oil, and here he met one of his favourite subjects – his beloved wife Karin.

When I think of Carl Larsson I think of a man with an extraordinary gift to capture the characteristics of Sweden, its nature and its traditions.

One of my favourite paintings, is that of his children fishing Crayfish in the beautiful summer night, very much like how my siblings and I used to do together with our Father.

The home of Carl Larsson in Sundborn became his canvas. Brightly coloured and richly decorated.

It's well worth a visit.

Welcome to Sweden.

Thank you!
