H.M. Queen Silvia

Silvia, The Queen of Sweden, was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on 23 December 1943. Her parents were the late Walther Sommerlath and his Brazilian wife Alice, née de Toledo, also deceased.

Silvia Renate Sommerlath and King Carl XVI Gustaf met at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
 
They announced their engagement at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on 12 March 1976, and they were married on 19 June the same year.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia have three children: Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine.
