King Carl XVI Gustaf's 25th jubilee

By Curator Kerstin Hagsgård, the Royal Collections

The King celebrated his 25th jubilee in 1998. The celebrations took place on Sweden's National Day, 6 June, and included inviting a number of citizens from all Sweden's municipalities — a total of 2,000 guests — to the Royal Palace of Stockholm for a reception.

The official gift from the Riksdag, the Swedish Government and the municipalities of Sweden was King Carl XVI Gustaf's Jubilee Room. The King and Queen had expressed a desire for a room at the Royal Palace of Stockholm featuring contemporary Swedish décor.

Furniture designer Åke Axelsson designed the furniture and had overall responsibility for the décor. The room is located in the Bernadotte Apartments, and can be viewed by the public.
