Since 1984, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) has arranged Royal Technology Missions (RTMs) around the world, at The King's initiative.
An RTM is a delegation trip for Swedish business leaders and representatives from authorities and universities. The aim is primarily to make new contacts that can lead to a greater exchange of ideas and business. The King takes part in these delegation trips. This year's trip, to the Czech Republic, was the twentieth such mission. The theme for this year's trip was investigating how an old industrial nation with a similar profile to Sweden is being transformed into a knowledge-based economy. IVA's knowledge network consists of approximately 1,000 Swedish and foreign members, together with a Business Council with around 200 member companies. The King was accompanied on the trip to the Czech Republic by IVA's CEO Björn O. Nilsson, IVA's President Leif Johansson, Group Chief Executive Håkan Buskhe, CEO Anders Nyrén, CEO Lars Stugemo, CEO Marianne Dicander Alexandersson and CEO Saeid Esmaeilzadeh.
