On Friday 25 May, The King opened Naturum Tåkern.
Five years ago, Östergötland County Administrative Board advertised an architecture competition on behalf of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for a visitor's centre that would fit in with the natural environment at Lake Tåkern. Construction began in 2010, and the facility was opened by The King on Friday. Nature guides from the county administrative board showed The King the new facility, the birdwatching tower and a film about the bird reserve at Lake Tåkern, as well as part of what will become Princess Estelle's fairytale path. County Governor Elisabeth Nilsson, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's Director-General Maria Ågren and architect Gert Wingårdh took part in the opening ceremony. An extract from the ballet Swan Lake was performed by Hanna Berglund, Cecilia Jacobsson, Alexandra Svensson and Emelie Söderström from the Linköping Ballet Ensemble. Delphine Constantin from Norrköping Symphony Orchestra played the harp during the ceremony. Find out more about Lake Tåkern here.
