On Friday 22 June, The King and Queen visited the shanty town of Cantagalo in Rio de Janeiro to find out about initiatives being carried out to encourage the positive development of Cantagalo.
The King and Queen visited the AfroReggae dance project, where an excerpt from the project's new performance Afro Circo was staged, the Child Hope Space project, which supports children and young people, and a youth boxing project. The King and Queen were accompanied by Antonio Claret, the minister responsible for social assistance and human rights at the Government of Rio de Janeiro, and various representatives from local organisations. In the morning, The King listened to Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's speech at the Rio+20 conference. Find out more about the Rio+20 environmental meeting.
