State Visit from Finland — day 2
On Wednesday 18 April, Finland's President Sauli Niinistö continued his two-day state visit to Sweden.
The day began with the Presidential couple and The King and Queen visiting the Swedish-Finnish School in Upplands Väsby. The school was founded in 1993, and teaching takes place in both Swedish and Finnish. The school currently has more than 150 pupils at primary and lower secondary levels.
The visit began with songs from the junior-level pupils, speeches from two senior-level pupils and a concluding speech from the head teacher, Markku Peura. You can read the speech here. Afterwards, The King and Queen and the Presidential couple attended a lesson.
After the visit to the Swedish-Finnish School, the Presidential couple and The King and Queen visited Karolinska Institutet
in Solna. Here, they were welcomed by the President of Karolinska Institutet Harriet Wallberg-Henriksson, who then gave an introduction to the various activities carried out at the university. Mattias Ihlén spoke about the Science for Life Laboratory, which the Presidential couple and The King and Queen then visited. Here, Miia Kivipelto and Jan Johansson talked about their research into Alzheimer's disease, and Hjalmar Brismar spoke about his microscopy research.
The City of Stockholm then hosted lunch for the Presidential couple and The King and Queen on board the S/S Stockholm.
