Prince Carl Philip visits the Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine in Gothenburg

On Wednesday 7 March, Prince Carl Philip visited the Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine in Gothenburg.
The visit to Gothenburg Garrison began with The Prince hearing about the garrison's operations, the Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine (FöMedC) and the Elfsborg Battalion.
One of the four National Home Guard battalions in the Gothenburg and Sjuhärad District — part of the Elfsborg Battalion — performs naval duties and uses vessels including combat boats. The Prince, who was a combat boat pilot during his military service, piloted a trip in the Gothenburg archipelago.
The afternoon began with a visit to health and medical care personnel who will be posted to Afghanistan to relieve their colleagues. The 50 or so health and medical care personnel are currently completing the final week of a three-week training course at FöMedC.
FöMedC's task is to ensure effective health and medical care for the Swedish Armed Forces during peacetime, during international operations, in the event of war or disaster, and during armed conflict.
The Elfsborg Battalion is the unit within FöMedC that trains the National Home Guard and the National Protection Forces in the Gothenburg and Sjuhärad District.
