The Queen is awarded the Dresden Medal of St. George

On Friday 7 February, The Queen was presented with the Dresden Medal of St. George at the Semper Opera Ball in Dresden, in recognition of "her great international social commitment".

In particular, The Queen was recognised for her international work with vulnerable children through the World Childhood Foundation and her work with dementia sufferers through the founding of Silviahemmet.

The medal was presented at the Semper Opera Ballexternal link, opens in new window, and the other recipients were:

  • Actress Catherine Deneuve
  • President of the European Commission Manuel Barroso
  • TV celebrity Thomas Gottschalk
  • Composer Udo Jürgens

During her visit to Dresden, The Queen also visited Dresden Frauenkircheexternal link, opens in new window and the Grünes Gewölbeexternal link, opens in new window Art Museum, founded in 1723 by Augustus II.
