On Wednesday 25 June, The Queen began a visit to Washington DC by speaking at Fifth Birthday and Beyond in Congress on Capitol Hill.

Fifth Birthday and Beyond is an association of more than 150 businesses, organisations and religious communities, working together to end the preventable deaths of young children and to ensure that children reach their fifth birthday.

The Queen and Mayor of Washington DC Vincent C. Gray then visited Safe Shores, a centre for children who have suffered sexual assaults where both children and their families can get help.

On Thursday 26 June, The Queen attended the World Childhood Foundation's lunch seminar at the House of Sweden, where the focus was on children's rights. The day concluded with the Thank You Festivalexternal link, opens in new window, a music festival from which part of the income was donated to the World Childhood Foundation.
